Taken from life
....And then there I was, in my mid-40s, relocated from city life to the countryside, because we (my husband and I, including our pets) had found a great location here, where other people go on vacation: Not too far off economic life, but far enough to live close to nature and idyllic as “best agers”, in a so-called “key moment”:
I didn´t wanted to spend regular life time in traffic jams during the week anymore to drive to one of those turbulent offices. What I was still able to do with enthusiasm and curiosity when I was younger, no longer fulfilled me at some point. I had the feeling too often: “Oh...geez...I already know that all...”. Do you know that?
If not, it feels a bit like a well-worn pair of shoes, that once used to be your favorites.
Since this key moment, I wanted to improve my professional focus and be able to make more independent decisions. To handle interesting projects again and earn my money in a good mood. To make a difference, to help building up something. To do something I can be proud of, when I'm old.
I envisioned a comfortably furnished, informal office where I could choose my own colleagues and manage my time free.
So, I either had to become a boss - or take the plunge into self-employment.
At that time I didn't know, how, where exactly or which business area - yet. I had courage and self-confidence, as well as knowledge and practical know-how, but was that enough to be accepted by the “elite university types”?
` .... no idea....`
But was it enough to meet my own requirements?
I wasn't sure.
So, first of all, I did some sensible further training to build on everything I´ve had learned and implemented in practice during my first 20 years of work, to create a solid base for the start.
So here I am now, 2024, the year I´ve founded my company as an appraiser for real estate valuations - and my own boss. Professionally, I´ve started with what I can really assess and evaluate and am building my office, step by step. Started small - you´ll never know where I will stand within 5 years.
Self-employment as a valuer gives me a degree of freedom, a responsible task in my specialist area, and flexibility. I can perfecly combine my private and professional life, without having to make too many compromises.
The office today, offers a little more than a home office.
And client families, for the time of personal meetings, a positive atmosphere that suits the area.
I'll post real pictures later - or you can just drop by.
But please let me know in advance, I'm often away on appointments or have to get the office dog out, before you will enter.
That's enough for now, it will develop.
Best regards,
Bianca Schillings
